Hello, Everybody… This is Cawood Ledford

Cawood Paul MillerIf you grew up in Kentucky, you didn’t just hear that voice; you trusted it. Cawood didn’t sell hype; he told the truth—fair, honest, and respectful. He believed the game mattered because people mattered. When Kentucky basketball was right, it sounded like him.

On the eve of Rick Pitino and Mark Pope meeting in Atlanta, I keep thinking about that standard. Different eras, same expectation: play hard, tell it straight, and honor what came before.

Cawood called the last home game of the Pitino era in 1992—a win, fittingly—but what he really passed down wasn’t a score; it was a way of being Kentucky. From Adolph Rupp to Joe B. Hall, from Pitino to Pope, the thread never broke. The uniform changed, but the voice stayed steady.

That voice mattered to us at Paul Miller, too.

When Paul Miller Ford arrived on Main Street in 1953, we didn’t come to just sell cars; we came to support the community, university, the coaches, the teams, and the families who listened on the radio while driving a Ford home at night. From the pristine leather of a basketball to the worn-in leather of a King Ranch seat, Kentucky craftsmanship has always meant something.

A truck headed to the horse auction on a gravel road. A farm driveway empty in the morning, full of new friends by night. Some folks keep horses ready to run; some keep trucks ready to work. A Mustang blooms out of the stable either way.

That’s Kentucky.

Cawood understood it. He told it like it was, and because he did, we trusted him—whether he was calling a jumper at Rupp or reminding us to buckle up on the drive home.

Today, before the ball tips, I hear him again—not calling a play, but calling us back to who we are.

We are Kentucky. We are tradition with forward motion. And we are proud to carry it on.
